A resigned cop, Thakur Baldev Singh gets two convicts, Jaidev and Veeru, to catch Gabbar Singh, a desperado boss who has been threatening the little town of Ramgarh. Gabbar had slaughtered Thakur's whole family and even had his arms cut off. Unfit to render retribution himself, Thakur Baldev Singh initiates Veeru and Jaidev, both little league hoodlums. Both consent to catch Gabbar Singh live and hand him over to Baldev Singh. Things don't go as arranged. Veeru succumbs to the nearby pony carriage driver Basanti; and Jai begins to have sentimental affections for Baldev Singh's bereaved little girl in-law, Radha. To exacerbate the situation, Gabbar has vowed to slaughter both Jai and Veeru, and holds Basanti as a prisoner, to draw them to him. In any case, Jaidev and Veeru was sharp to such an extent that no crook could outsmart the two.
